Accidents 2009!

January23
Says it all!

Says it all!

This 2009 December season was an uneventful (luckily) season regarding accidents. The Lord once again was so good to us to send us millions of his little Angels to protect us from any serious accidents.  Lots of which could have ended up in very bad memories.

Mandy, always ready to doctor someone with a pain, was ever so calmly sitting in the office prepping her little medical box that we got her for Christmas, when the first call came through.  There was a very big accident upriver, two boats collided head on.

Internal abdominal injuries on one person and the list continues.  Luckily for the people involved in the accident, the caller was a person whom we trust would not fool around.  Normally we would have to find out from other sources the who, where, why and intensity of the accident as lots of people panic in situations like these and make them a lot worse than what really happened.

Mandy was quick to call in the ambulance and went down to the slipway with Dr Joe de Beer who came in for a late snack from the kitchen.  The two of them marched down to the slipway were a crowd was already forming.  Times like these you wish you had a whole police force just to keep the curious onlookers at bay.

The ambulance arrived – Joe took over as soon as the boat arrived with the injured people.  Now I do not know all the terminology of the medical world but as I understood it, an assessment was made, the one person was put in the ambulance, the second in a car and off the whole lot went.  We were extremely lucky to have had the right people at the right time available for us.  We would like to thank each and everyone who helped to resolve the situation quickly and efficiently.

All of this happened because people did not abide by the rules and one guy did not keep on his side of the river.  Accidents happen so quickly, you may think that you just quickly going to do this or that and bang!

Talies showing off!

Our second accident happened on the shore – whether the friend thought he hooked a big one or whether the guy caught himself – I did not find out.  We did however have the map and numbers ready for them as they drove out to get the rest of the fish hook taken out at the local doctors in Moorreesburg.

All was okay - the other photo's was a pose!

The third accident was a – “Thank God for Angels” one.  Driving up the one way to go and park his trailer, the trailer decided it would rather want to go back to the river.  The trailer reversed all by itself, missing Tallies Landrover by mm’s and came to a stop against the garage poles of the caravan plot on the corner of Kanallestappie.

Luckily the only injury was an crunched ego.

So be careful out there, whether you are on the road, water or air – you never know when cows start flying!
