Newsletter – November 2009
Welcome, welcome back to myself on our brand new web!
Just had to do that, as I realised that we’ve been gathering information, opening restaurants, starting studs, learning of blogs, had winter in summer, changing menu’s, fighting mother nature and lots of other stuff. All of that and more in the last two months since I wrote a newsletter.
No wonder Mareth is bothering me so much. Every time we speak or see each other she wants to know when the next newsletter is going out.

Mareth doing Springbaskets
Well my dear Lady, do I have a surprise for you – not only a new newsletter – a whole new updated web site, News Blog and Event Calendar – hope you got some spare time to take leave as it would not be advisable to start looking at this during your lunch hour!
Also the calender (click here to view) will be updated as soon as we know who’s doing what on the resort and this is in a printable format – “druk net die knoppie” soos Ouma Joey sal seg! All our special weekends are already on there so do yourself a favour and go have a peek.

Talking about food – Kim from Kim’s Gourmet, & I had a royal time working on the new “Boetie se Kombuis” menu for the veranda.
Besides the normal Hangover breakfast’s which are bigger, we now also have a whole lot of other breakies that are just as nice.
And added to the Hamburgers & Toasties is our mouthwatering Pitta’s & Wrap’s - you should really try one of these out.

Kim & Lucky frying snitchels!
Plus a whole lot of different baskets for the whole family – Chicken, Meat, Fish or Burger Baskets! For more on this check out the webpage.

Now you should know – that’s if you know us – that this is the time of the year that a farmer need some kind of tractor seat under his backside (for choice of a better word). Or maybe it is the longing for dust & grease around them.
Oct, Nov & Dec is Harvestime! With Kobus & my dad on the fields, Nic had a slight case of Harvesttime-withdrawal-symtoms – so he decided it’s time to build the N8. As you come over the bridge – do not for one minute think you are back on the N7 – this is the brand new N8 – specially for the 4by4byFAR guys.

Ralph & Matilda
Mandy has not sat still either. She is researching a huge variety of different studs. Soon Lulu’s Stud will not only have Appaloosas but also cow’s, sheep & goats. Nope, no babies yet. Although difficult to keep up with what was bought or sold we seem to stay stuck with Matilda & Ralph. With your next visit you can stop before the bridge to say hi to the two of them.
Although Ralph is still a bit young, Mandy is absolutely certain that Matilda likes them young and that the two will get along just fine.
Soon Boetie se Kombuis will be making their own cheese. That is now if I can get the milk to simmer at the right temperature (tried testing with my finger but don’t seem to work). My first try ended in more or less the same mixture that I started with but you just watch this space. Cheese will soon come out of my cooler room.

Bad Apple ...
Just flipping through my gallery to see what’s worth showing to you and I almost forget about our huge successful Bad Apple weekend. Now if you’re anything like me you’d think “Wie wil nou vrot appels eet die hele naweek?”
There is still so much to talk about but I should keep something for the next newsletter or blog. Remember now that we are in the 20th century so to receive updates from our News Blog you have to register and create your own password (once only). Once you’ve done that we will automatically e-mail you a News Alert when we post anything in our blog or when we add some new event to our Event Calendar – so no more excuses for not knowing what that is happening at your favourite place. Groetnis & kom kuier!
And like every story that must have a happy ending – here’s something to laugh about – a real bar story:
One of our guests had a hard time today getting his boat unlocked as he has not paid us for a long time. So at about 6pm my dad is sitting in our office reading the paper.
This same guy walks into the office, greets my dad and ask – Why if he is so intelligent must he still read the newspaper?
Now my dad, not knowing this guy, not knowing that he owes us money, remembering him from somewhere, answered that he should make use of his investment (meaning that he spent 5 bucks buying the paper, he should read it).
Clever guy then asks why he’s checking up on his investments if he’s got this lovely place with this beautifull river? Clever guy turns around and walks out!
Sien julle op die Blogs!!
Warm Swartlandse Groete,
Caren
